About Ash

First and foremost, thanks for stopping by…

It is no secret that there are a boatload of law firms available to you and that is why I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to show you why you have made the right choice by coming here.

Kernen Law represents my vision for the next generation law firm.  One that respects the institution of law yet bucks the overly-formal and stuffy conventions of yesteryear.  I understand that as a client, you want an advocate who will talk with you and not at you; an intelligent straight-shooter who listens to your needs, delivers on them, and keeps your best interest in mind all the while.  I will not make you wait days or weeks to return your call and I certainly won’t charge you in 7-minute increments for the privilege.  Instead, through education, pricing predictability, ease-of-access, and cloud-based solutions, my goal is to empower you as a client while offering the best counsel possible.

I have spent years advocating for and protecting the rights of creative and innovative class including individuals, start-ups, and established entities.  From simple two-party agreements to intricate, multi-layered transactions, from licensing to litigation, I will help protect you and your creative output while maximizing commercial opportunities.  I am a champion of the little guy yet I am equally comfortable working with industry Goliaths as I have done many times before.

Beyond The Practice

In addition to my work at Kernen Law, I frequently volunteer my time at various pro bono legal services to help the underserved and less fortunate, particularly on issues of social and economic justice.   While in law school, I was a member of the Rubin Public Interest Honor Society as well as legal intern at the Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts.  In more recent times, I spent time championing the Music Modernization Act here locally through my work with the Philadelphia chapter of the Grammys,  as well volunteering at the amazing Philadelphia VIP pro bono legal service.

On the personal tip, I currently live in the Fishtown section of Philadelphia with my beautiful wife Jess and our handsome devil of a son, Luca.  When I’m not at home or the office, I live to immerse myself in the Philadelphia music scene as both a fan and frontman for the indie rock band, Lovecartel.    I also previously served as Vice Flotilla Commander in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and am currently a boatcrewman and Operations + Communications Services Staff Officer .  I love snowboarding and single-malt Islay scotch.  And finally, if there’s any time left in between those pursuits, I sleep….  But not really.
